The P20 Consortium is a nonprofit public benefit corporation organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation laws of the State of California. It is not organized for the private gain of any person. The corporation is organized exclusively for charitable or educational purposes. It includes among its officers and directors education deans and leaders from California and across the country. It is part of a national network of groups interested in similar work, the Wingspread P20 Consortium.
The Wingspread P20 Consortium is a national group of schools doing work like that of the California P20 Consortium nonprofit organization. The Wingspread Meeting series is named for the Johnson Foundation Conference facilities in Racine, WI, which were the site of the first meeting of this group of cross-education law-school-led teams. The Wingspread meetings involve a consortium of P-20 educators, the bench, and the bar committed to working across the educational continuum to improve participation, persistence, and success of diverse students in high school and college, with the goal of enhancing their aspirations and capacity to move into positions in the legal profession and leadership of the nation. Over 30 law schools and an equal number of educational organizations are involved already. You can learn more about the efforts being made by members of the national Wingspread P20 Consortium ––by visiting the Wingspread section on the McGeorge School of Law Page
The educational pipeline is the pathway students follow from preschool to professional schools and careers. In many ways the pipeline is leaking and we are losing many students along the way. The P20 Consortium and its national counterpart, the Wingspread P20 Consortium, are working to plug these leaks. These institutions of higher education are working with creative P12 educators to encourage students from the time they begin pre-school and throughout their academic careers to engage and stay in school to go to college and to consider joining a profession. You can read more about the Educational Pipeline by visiting the Law School Pipeline section of the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law web page (click the link below).
The Natomas Unified School District serves a diverse community of students with a diverse ethnic makeup comparable to Sacramento County and California. This ensures the pipeline work of the P20 Consortium will continue to reach those under-represented in professional education schools. The following information is based on the 2005-06 District Data Quest information provided by the California Department of Education
